This post is a stop on the Lovestruck Giveaway hop hosted by Under The Covers and Bona Fide Reflections. I'm having such a hard time deciding on my favorite couple that this post is extremely late. There are just so many of them. Right off the bat I think of Cat and Bones. They have a great chemistry. I love how Jeaniene Frost lets us see the trials of their relationship after most books would have given the couple their HEA and moved onto a different couple. Bones and Cat each have a great sense of humor so the banter between the two is hilarious at times. I've also chosen this couple because, well, Bones is hot. His love for Cat is so strong. He will move mountains to keep her with him. It is sigh-worthy for sure. So to help any of you that have not met Bones, or even for those just wanting to re-experience the story of this hot vamp, I will giveaway one Kindle e-copy of Halfway to the Grave by Jeaniene Frost. Good luck!

The Darkest Lie (Lords of the Underworld #6)
Synopsis: In this riveting new installment of New York Times bestselling author Gena Showalter’s Lords of the Underworld series, Gideon, keeper of the Demon of Lies, fights to uncover the truth….
Forced to his knees in agony whenever he speaks the truth, Gideon can recognize any lie—until he captures Scarlet, a demon-possessed immortal who claims to be his long-lost wife. He doesn’t remember the beautiful female, much less wedding — or bedding — her. But he wants to . . . almost as much as he wants her.
But Scarlet is keeper of Nightmares, too dangerous to roam free, and a future with her could mean ultimate ruin. Especially as Gideon’s enemies draw closer . . . and the truth threatens to destroy all he’s come to love . . .

My thoughts: I loved this one, but found it hard to read with all the Gideon-speak. I kept having to go back and reread paragraphs.
I loved Scarlet as a heroine. She had her own powers and was an all-round kick-ass female. Scarlet controls Nightmares and can enter people's dreams, find out their deepest fears and create dreams will actually cause physical harm in the real world. She has a past with Gideon and is determined to torture him for the pain he caused her over the centuries, but can she resist him? She not only has to fight with Gideon over their supposed past, but her demon as well.
Gideon, like I said before, is kind of hard to understand. He would be thrilled to actually tell Scarlet how he feels without having to say the opposite. Luckily Scarlet understands Gideon speak better than I do! Oh and luckily for Scarlet, Gideon's hands are back! Now that would certainly be torture for Gideon!
How could Gideon forget his time with this woman? Was he really that callous? I don't think so, I love Gideon! Still not my absolute FAVORITE Lord, but he's up there. This one is a four and a half burning heart for me!!

The Darkest Passion (Lords of the Underworld #5) by Gena Showalter
Synopses: For weeks, the immortal warrior Aeron has
sensed an invisible female presence. An angel-demon-assassin has been sent to
kill him. Or has she? Olivia claims she fell from the heavens, giving up
immortality because she couldn't bear to harm him. But trusting - and falling
for - Olivia will endanger them all. So how has this mortal with the huge blue
eyes already unleashed Aeron's darkest passion?
With an enemy hot on his trail and his faithful demon companion determined to remove Olivia from his life, Aeron is trapped between duty and consuming desire. Worse still, a new executioner has been sent to do the job Olivia wouldn't...
With an enemy hot on his trail and his faithful demon companion determined to remove Olivia from his life, Aeron is trapped between duty and consuming desire. Worse still, a new executioner has been sent to do the job Olivia wouldn't...
My thoughts:
Right off the bat, I’m going
to say, I did not like Olivia. She was a
stalker, constantly trying to win Aeron.
She couldn’t harm him, but I’m sure there must have been another way to
stay in the heavens and not give up everything for a man who didn’t want her
around (at least at the beginning). In
book 4 he talks to the unseen angel, threatening her for chasing Legion away,
so why would she think that he would change his mind about her. Olivia did have a few occasions where she
made me laugh with her trying to be “sexy” or “slutty”.
Legion also drove me
nuts. She is spoiled rotten, and her
storyline for this book kind of weirded me out, as I’m sure it did to poor
Aeron. Her transformation and the means
that she took to get that transformation made me want to shake her
senseless. I guess out of my protective
feelings for poor Aeron. I just noticed
that I keep referring to Aeron as “poor”.
He is not my favorite Lord, but he was put in such awkward situations in
this book, I kept cringing and wanting to smack the women for making him feel
his feelings. I felt like he was under
attack from these women. Ha, I guess some
guys would probably envy him the situation, but he just seemed so torn and
confused. Poor Aeron ;)
This book really opens up another area for Ms. Showalter to play. The Heavens can know be called upon to add storylines and characters. The ending scenes really made this book for me. I cried and was totally dumbstruck with the things Ms. Showalter let happen! I’m trying not to give too much away, but the ending made the irritation I felt through the book at the females all worth it. Totally unexpected! Extra burning heart just for that!
